Each spring, rowing teams and their coaches travel across the United States to train at R.M. Cooper Leadership Center for Spring Crew Training. The combination of warm southern weather, a rustic yet beautiful setting and a complete range of modern amenities make the Cooper Leadership Center an excellent place to learn, work and relax without distractions.
The Cooper Leadership Center provides an excellent opportunity for teams to train intensively because there are no distractions. We are on a 110-acre peninsula of Lake Marion, near Summerton, S.C., only 15 miles from Interstate 95 (see detailed map). Lodging, meals and recreation are only yards away from the docks, so time normally spent traveling to your launch site is spent on the water.
When you arrive, you will find lodging and dining facilities on the shores of Wyboo Creek. A half-mile wide, Wyboo Creek offers more than three miles of water for rowing. There are no obstructions and little traffic during February, March and April. March temperatures range from the mid 50s to upper 70s.
In addition, we offer large recreational areas for basketball, beach volleyball, softball and football, as well as fields for off-water workouts. There is also a large gymnasium with ample floor space and classrooms for teams to use during their stay. Finally, our climbing tower and three ropes courses are vital parts of our adventure programming.
