External Mock Reviewer Program

External Mock Reviewer Program Eligibility

The grant being developed can be submitted to any funding agency but should be for at least $50,000 and include indirect costs. New and resubmitted proposals are encouraged. CRCA would pay a consulting fee of $300 to this mock reviewer.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please send your assigned CRCA preaward coordinator a brief summary of your proposal, and the names of 1-2 potential reviewers. You might want to look at funded grants database to locate potential reviewers (CRCA can help with this if needed).

Funded grants database websites for major funders include:

Criteria for selecting reviewer

The selected external (not a CU employee) reviewer must have received funding within the past 5 years from the funding agency to which the proposal will be submitted. Faculty can nominate 1-2 potential reviewers (only one will be selected so faculty can identify their top choice).

Expectations from Faculty

A full draft of the proposal narrative must be submitted to the reviewer at least 4 weeks before the Clemson University/CRCA internal due date (which is 5 business days prior to sponsor due date).

Expectations from Reviewer

The reviewer will be asked to critique the proposal as if they were reviewing it for the funding agency to which the grant is being submitted (e.g., using same criteria and review template that the funding agency uses). Reviewers will be asked to complete the review within 2 weeks.
