The Division of Collaborative Academic Services (DCAS) provides support to students, faculty and staff in the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences and the College of Education. From academic advising and research support to computer assistance and publicity efforts, DCAS centers and offices work behind the scenes to make operations run smoothly.
The Academic Advising Center assists undergraduate students with a variety of academic services. Academic advisors are available to assist freshmen, sophomores, transfer students, and those changing their major. Academic advisement, course selection, transferability of courses, and completion of various academic forms take place in this office. Academic advisors are also available to meet with prospective students considering various majors. Prospective students are encouraged to make appointments with an advisor in their intended major.
Focused on increasing research capabilities, the Center for Research and Collaborative Activities (CRCA) facilitates grantsmanship, research and scholarship by providing a variety of services. The objectives of the CRCA are to increase research productivity, promote a collaborative research environment, and support research initiatives. The functions encompass a broad range of services that generally fall into the three areas: grants, research and scholarship, and training and other support services.
The Office of Communications and Public Relations creates public relations materials and communications in ways that engage stakeholders. The office's duties include website development and editing, news and feature writing, publications and collateral materials, e-communications, advertising, marketing, branding, social media, photo and video development, and alumni and development communications support.
The Information Technology Services unit provides insight and direction into the use of computer technology. Using established policies and procedures, they use technology to support grant-based research by configuring the specifications for a research server to house the data according to the guidelines dictated by the grant. For faculty, staff and students, they automate features on their computers for virus scan/security updates. They assist with the use of software applications and purchase computer hardware, software, handheld devices, and other technologies to enhance day-to-day functioning.
