Hi! I serve as the Director of Freshman Academic Programs at Clemson. In addition to assisting with the coordination of the Early Success Program, my primary role is to help freshmen transition successfully into college life at Clemson! I earned my undergraduate degree in Sociology from Lander University in 2005 and my Master’s in Educational Counseling from Clemson in 2007. Prior to taking this position in 2012, I worked at Young Harris College, Georgia Tech, and for the Bridge to Clemson program at Tri-County Technical College.
I am married and the proud mother of a 3 month old baby boy, Theodore and 6 year old twins, Oliver and Matilda. In my free time I enjoy reading, running, and writing! Anne Lamott, Glennon Doyle Melton, and Barbara Brown Taylor are among my favorite authors. I love working with the Early Success Program and I look forward to meeting each of you and being a part of your journey at Clemson!
Welcome to Clemson! I am the Assistant Coordinator of Freshman Academic Programs and will be involved with the Early Success Program this summer and throughout the year. I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). As an undergraduate, I majored in Elementary and Special Education with a minor in Dance. Upon graduation, I taught high school for a few years, but knew my passion was working with college students. While pursuing my Master’s in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education from UNCG, I worked in the Office of Leadership and Service-Learning. This experience gave me the opportunity to work with students across many settings in developing their leadership.
I am originally from North Carolina, so my dog Stella and I have not adventured too far from home! I enjoy crafting, traveling, and cooking. I craft mostly vinyl decals and paper decorations. My travels have taken me as far north as the Arctic Circle in Norway and as far south as the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. I have recently discovered a love of cooking and I enjoy trying new recipes so I can put my own spin on them! I can’t wait to be a part of your adventure at Clemson!
Hi y'all! My name is Wonjae Kim and I am the Graduate Assistant for Freshman Academic Programs. I am excited to meet everybody for an exciting summer!
I grew up in the suburbs of DC and have lived in Virginia my entire life. I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2016 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and again in 2017 with a B.S.H. in Environmental Horticulture. While my curriculum was based in the sciences, I realized my passion in Student Affairs after working as an Orientation Leader at Virginia Tech, which is why I decided to pursue my Masters in Student Affairs at Clemson University!
My passions include cooking, hiking, and music. I am a cellist as well as a percussionist, having played in the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech. If I am not playing music, I will probably be exploring the cool plants around South Carolina. I am excited to spend my second summer with the Early Success Program and cannot wait to welcome new Tigers to Clemson University!
Hi everyone! My name is Gina Mariano and I am the Graduate Intern for Freshman Academic Programs. I am super excited to meet everyone and have a great summer! I am originally from Stratford, CT which is right near New York! I graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2017 with a B.S. in Social Work. During my time at Bridgewater I was involved with the programming board, Greek Life and had a job as an Event Planner. Though my internship experiences in social work were enlightening, what I did outside of the classroom caught my attention and that’s when I decided to apply for graduate schools with programs focused in Student Affairs. Clemson University was my top choice for their school spirit and outstanding program and I’m so happy to be here!
When I’m not in class or at my assistantship with Campus Activities and Events, I love to cross stitch! I love making new designs and using bright colors. Most of the time, though, you’ll see me cuddling with my cat, Minerva (Minnie for short) or watching Criminal Minds on Netflix. I’m so excited to get out of my comfort zone and spend the summer with Early Success Programs. Go Tigers!
Hey everyone! My name is Caroline Yates and I am a sophomore PRTM Travel and Tourism major. I am from Suwanee, Georgia and graduated from Lambert High school where I was actively involved in club soccer, track and field, my church and mission trips, and DECA. I went through the Early Success Program last summer and am so excited to be a part of your ESP experience this summer. This program is a great opportunity to meet new people and get a head start on college. It has played a key role in my success at Clemson thus far by teaching me how to be a successful college student and allowing me to meet people that I would not have met otherwise. I am currently an intern for the College of Business at Clemson and plan to get more involved in the future. Some of my favorite things to do include hanging out with friends, going to the lake, and watching Netflix. I am so excited to spend the summer with y’all and show you around your future home. Go Tigers!!
Hey everyone! My name is Seth Hoben and I am a Sophomore Pre-Business major here at Clemson. I am from Charlotte, North Carolina and I graduated from South Mecklenburg High School. I went through the Early Success Program the summer of 2017. I enjoy spending the afternoons at Y beach, relaxing with my friends, and taking naps. Some of my hobbies include playing intramural soccer, fishing, skiing, wakeboarding, and golfing. I am a very easy person to get to know and very energetic. The Early Success Program was such an amazing experience and I am very excited to come back as a Peer Mentor this summer.
Hey everyone! My name is Shelby Lee and I am from Seneca, SC. I am a Pre-Business (Marketing) major and I plan on minoring in Brand Communications. I graduated from Seneca High School in 2017. During high school, I was actively involved in cheerleading, lacrosse, HOSA, student government, FCA, FFA, and the International Club. In my free time, I love watching Netflix, eating, hanging out with my friends, watching baseball, and going to the lake! I am super laid back and easy going. I am so ecstatic to be a Peer Mentor because I want to show how awesome the summer with the Early Success Program can be. Peer Mentors play a huge role in how the summer will go and I want to make this summer the best one of your life! I can’t wait to meet all of you! See you soon! Go Tigers!!
Hey y’all! My name is Charlie and I am a sophomore Marketing major. I am from Anderson, SC and graduated TL Hanna High School in 2017. I swam competitively for 12 years for both a club team and for my high school, but I also played church basketball. I was a part of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. I love going to the beach and lake with my family and friends to have fun or just relax. The Early Success Program was a great experience that allowed me to make some of my best friends and spend the summer in my favorite place. It also gave me the opportunity to get to know the campus better and adjust to college life before the other freshman. I cannot wait to spend another summer at Clemson, but this time as a Peer Mentor!
Hi y’all! My name is Tori Banks and I am a sophomore Marketing major with a minor in Communication. I am from Cary, NC and graduated from Cary Academy where I was actively involved with the National Honor Society, Key Club, dance team, and cheerleading. I enjoy spending time at the lake, hanging with my friends, watching Netflix, and eating in downtown Clemson. Also, I’m very easygoing and enthusiastic; if you ever need someone to laugh at your jokes, I’m here for you. The Early Success Program was a great way to get a jump start on college life before everyone gets on campus and I met some of my best friends through the program. I absolutely can’t wait to share the experience with all of you and make it one of the best summers yet! Go Tigers!
Hey y'all! My name is Holly and I am a Sophomore Marketing major here at Clemson. I'm from Pendleton, SC, which is just about 10 minutes from Clemson! I attended Pendleton High School where I was actively involved in Spirit and Competitive Cheer, Soccer, Young Life, Beta Club and National Honors Society. I pride myself on being an avid shopper, food connoisseur, and being the loudest person in the room 90% of the time. I am absolutely stoked to be a Peer Mentor for the Early Success Program this summer! I met some of my best friends and ended up experiencing the best summer of my life. I can’t wait to meet all of you soon! Get pumped for a great summer! And of course, Go Tigers and Go ESP!
