Student Orientation

Orientation is presented by Student Transitions and Family Programs as a first step to helping new undergraduate students have a successful transition and integration to college life at Clemson. The Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business participates by providing an introduction to the college and its programs for students planning to major in any Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business degree. We will provide academic advising and help students prepare for and register for their first semester of classes during the college meetings at orientation.

Need to register for orientation?

Student Transitions and Family Programs has compiled a New Student Checklist where you can find links to important tasks to be completed before, during and after orientation including a link to register for orientation.

Student FAQ

  • What will virtual orientation be like?

While we regret that we can't welcome you to campus for orientation Summer 2021, virtual orientation will provide you with the information you need to prepare for your first term as a Tiger. Virtual orientation will include the following steps in this order:

    1. Register for an orientation registration time block. Orientation registration opens May 3, 2021.
    2. Review the material in Virtual Orientation, including the Pre-Advising materials for your college and major. You must complete the Pre-Advising module before the next step can be initiated.
    3. Meet virtually with an advisor. After you complete the Pre-Advising module, the advising team will reach out to you to schedule your virtual one-on-one advising meeting. You will not have access to registration in the next step until you have met with an advisor.
    4. Register for classes. Details for course registration during your chosen registration time block will be provided by your advisor at the conclusion of your one-on-one advising meeting.

If conditions allow, in-person orientation programming will be scheduled prior to the start of classes in the Fall.

  • Why am I a Pre-Business major?

All incoming students planning to major in Accounting, Economics BS, Financial Management, Management or Marketing begin as Pre-Business majors for at least one semester.* Once a student completes the required Pre-Business courses (BUS 1010, ECON 2110, ECON 2120, ENGL 1030, MATH 1020 or 1060, MATH 2070 or 1080, and the Natural Science with a lab requirement) AND meets the required cumulative GPA requirement for their chosen major, they can complete the necessary forms to change their major. Marketing requires a 3.0 cumulative Clemson GPA and the other business majors require a 2.0 cumulative Clemson GPA. Graphic Communications majors and Economics BA majors do not begin in Pre-Business.
*Exception: Bridge to Clemson students may move into their chosen business major for their first semester enrolled in Clemson courses if they complete the Pre-Business course requirements and meet the GPA requirements.

  • How do I change my major?

You will be advised for classes for your assigned major at orientation so it is important that your assigned major matches your intended major, if possible. To change your major prior to orientation, you need to contact the Admissions Office at cuadmissions@clemson.edu or 864-656-2287. Please note that some majors have requirements to change so not all requests can be fulfilled.

  • How do I send my AP, IB, Dual Enrollment and Transfer credits to Clemson for credit?

It is important that you send all AP/IB/Dual enrollment/Transfer credits as soon as they are available. AP scores must be sent directly from the College Board. Clemson does not accept standard level IB exams. Dual enrollment and transfer credits should be sent directly from the institution where you took the courses via an official transcript from that institution. Dual enrollment courses cannot be sent from your high school. If you have credits from multiple institutions, you must send official transcripts from each institution. Official transcripts for incoming students should be sent to cuadmissions@clemson.edu.

  • How and when do I register for classes?

Instructions on how to register for classes will be provided in Virtual Orientation. You will register for classes during the registration time block you chose when you signed up for orientation.
