Research Interests
American cultures and literatures of the long nineteenth century; Multiethnic American literatures; Native American literatures; Science and literature

Pete Puckett teaches American literature and Rhetoric and Composition. His research and publications focus on the overlaps of science and literature, particularly on how minoritized authors engage in (and with) science through popular discourses, and his work has appeared in Studies in American Naturalism and American Literary Realism. His dissertation, A Science of Literature, examines how, during the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries, ethnologists and popular writers alike collected and defined Indigenous oral traditions as works of literature, and how Indigenous men and women, such as Jane Johnston Schoolcraft or Charles Alexander Eastman, played critical roles in that process.
