Master of Real Estate Development-MRED

MRED students touring Queen Center City in Charlotte, NC.

The Master of Real Estate Development Program provides students with a transformative learning experience and environment as part of an applied, interdisciplinary approach. We were the first graduate real estate development program in the nation that is a joint degree between an architectural and a business college, with required classes in MBA/Finance, Law, Construction Science and Management, Architecture, City and Regional Planning and Real Estate Development. Our students are offered what MBA real estate specializations include—and so much more!

The MRED Program’s holistic selection process seeks to identify students who are:

  • analytical in orientation;
  • entrepreneurial in mindset;
  • diverse in background;
  • engaging in the way they interact with others;
  • committed to their personal and professional goals.
  • Overview

    The Master of Real Estate Development Program at Clemson University prepares students to become champions of responsible development and sustainable growth, within the context of economic feasibility and value creation. This is accomplished by providing students with robust and interdisciplinary training that encourages them to explore the multiplicity of factors influencing the development of the built environment. Applied and practical in its orientation, the MRED Program focuses on familiarizing students with best practices in the real estate development industry, and on empowering them to put those best practices to work in different settings.

    Students who complete the curriculum should be able to:

    • Engage in high-level quantitative and qualitative analysis to make informed real estate development decisions;
    • Evaluate the economic, environmental and social implications of various types of real estate development projects;
    • Collaborate with individuals who have diverse academic and professional backgrounds spanning the disciplines of architecture, construction, finance and urban planning;
    • Ascend to leadership positions in real estate development firms who work at the regional, national and international level.
  • Program Goals

    The MRED program seeks an interdisciplinary student body that has academic credentials and the capacity to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. We have a holistic selection process that requires students to demonstrate exceptional track records in undergraduate study, work experience, and professional endeavors. We evaluate the person’s whole record of performance and entrepreneurial ability for an interdisciplinary graduate level program. To maintain the personal scale of the program, entering classes are kept to fewer than 30 students per year.

    Students who join the MRED Program can expect:

    • a curriculum closely aligned with the core values of the Urban Land Institute;
    • a cohort-based education model bringing together a talented and diverse group of individuals;
    • small classes and supportive faculty who believe in providing individualized education;
    • an abundance of experiential learning activities that complement work done in the classroom;
    • professional development opportunities at national conferences and networking events;
    • opportunities to engage with highly respected real estate practitioners and academics.
