Todd and Lea Anna

You will take most of your courses during the first year of the program. You may choose to take courses during the summer, or you may choose to pursue an internship or work opportunity in the summer.

As an MAWRM student, you will take four core courses: English 8520 (Rhetorical Theories and Practices), English 8530 (Visual Communication), English 8850 (Composition Theory), and English 8570 (Digital Rhetorics Across Media and Information Technologies). These courses provide a foundation of theory and practice in the field of writing, rhetoric, and media. At the end of your coursework, you will take English 8920 (the portfolio defense), where you will defend the work you have produced throughout your academic and professional careers to your MAWRM committee.

In addition to your core courses, you also take five cognate courses, chosen to support your chosen area of study. Please see the Cognate Areas section for advice on choosing these cognate courses.

It is important to recognize that each course may be offered only once during the semesters in which you are taking courses, so you should plan carefully and consult with your adviser. Consult the semester-by-semester course list for more information.
