Outdoor Activities

kayak.jpgClemson, SC is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the shores of Lake Hartwell. We enjoy four seasons, with a bit of snow but not too much cold in the winter, an early and flower-filled spring, a sunny and warm summer, and glorious fall color. Just at the edge of campus is a 295-acre public garden: the South Carolina Botanical Garden. The garden features several thousand varieties of ornamental plants, nature trails, and a collection of sculptures constructed from natural materials. Lake Hartwell, conveniently located near campus, also provides beach and picnic areas. Clemson Marina, one of Lake Hartwell’s five commercial marinas, is located directly across the lake from the stadium. The Jocassee Gorges offer fishing, hiking, canoeing, camping, and biking. Hiking trails are available for everyone from the novice to the experienced hiker. Mountain bikers can ride all year long on logging and access roads. The Jocassee Gorges’ mountain lake terrain provides 42,500 acres of peaks and gorges and a host of opportunities to watch nature in action, including rare and endangered species and waterfalls. There are many other natural areas to enjoy in the Clemson area--come see for yourself!
