Applicants come from diverse fields such as Computer Science, Public Relations, Biology, English, Communication Studies, Management, Marketing, and Graphic Design.

Priority for admission and assistantship funding will be given to applicants who apply by February 1 for the fall semester. However, we continue to review applications after the deadline until all spaces are full.

You may begin the program in either the fall or the spring semester, though we recommend beginning in the fall. Applicants for the spring semester should submit materials by November 1. Note that assistantships within our department are rarely available in the spring semester for students who begin the program in the spring because the positions are already filled by students who began in the fall. Assistantships may be available in other departments.

The following credentials are preferred, though the entire application is considered holistically:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Scores of 500/500/4.0 or better on the GRE (verbal/quantitative/writing)
  • Strong writing skills demonstrated through a writing sample and resume
  • Focused reasons for pursuing the MAWRM degree

To apply, follow these steps:

  1. Complete the online application for graduate admission.
  2. Have the following materials sent to the Graduate Admissions Office (further instructions are included in the online application):
    • Transcript(s) from colleges or universities where you have studied
    • Official GRE scores from ETS (and TOEFL scores for international students)
    • Two or three letters of recommendation from teachers or supervisors
  3. Send the following materials directly to the MAWRM program director:
    • Statement of purpose (approximately one single-spaced page) describing your experience, career goals, and reason for pursuing the MAWRM degree
    • Resume that includes a mailing address, email address, and phone number
    • Writing sample (of at least ten pages, which may be comprised of shorter pieces) of your professional or academic writing, preferably related to professional communication

If you are interested in applying to the MAWRM program, we encourage you to contact the program director for more information prior to applying or during the admissions process. You may also check the status of your application online.
