Dr. Baker is a historian of the twentieth and twenty-first century United States and the American South. He is particularly interested in the Sunbelt South and political change within the region and nation in the last third of the twentieth century. He is currently working on an article on Max Heller, a Holocaust refugee from Vienna, Austria who settled in Greenville, South Carolina and embarked on a second career in politics following his retirement from the apparel firm that he founded. Dr. Baker is also revising his dissertation which examined Sunbelt politics and the intersection between politics and economic development into a book manuscript. Prior to coming to Clemson, Dr. Baker taught at Auburn University, Anderson University, and in South Carolina’s technical college system. He completed his undergraduate work and master’s degree in History at Clemson.
