Courses
French and Francophone Cinema, World Cinema, Contemporary French Civilization

Joseph Mai teaches French, specializing in courses on film and contemporary civilization. He is also affiliated with and teaches in the World Cinema Program. Scholarly interests include: French Film, World Cinema, Film Theory and Philosophy, Contemporary Literature, and animal studies. He authored a book on the Belgian filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, and a more recent book exploring friendship, philosophy, and politics in the work of the Marseille filmmaker Robert Guédiguian. Recently his co-edited volume on the Franco-Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh has appeared with Rutgers University Press.
