Profile

Dr. Sarah M. Groh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice. Dr. Groh earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Georgia in 2024. Her research centers broadly on the personal, social, and structural factors that facilitate and constrain health and well-being, and she often uses social psychological theories to investigate her research questions. more specifically, her research focuses on how two fundamental social statuses - sexual orientation and gender identity - influence people's experiences of the social world. Broadly, she investigates two avenues of research: 1) patient-provider interaction, health care access and utilization, and health outcomes and 2) differences and similarities in gendered health and well-being outcomes at the personal and interactional level for LGBTQIA+ people and for women. Most of her work to date uses quantitative data analysis and/or interviews to investigate these two avenues of research. Her work has been published in Sex Roles and Journal of Interpersonal Violence.
