Kristen Cox's internship with Ann Arbor Ecology

My internship experience with the Ann Arbor Ecology Center was very positive. I had the opportunity to develop professional skills and made several great contacts and references within the Ann Arbor environmental community.  Helping in the coordination of the EcoRide was an excellent experience in the nonprofit sector. Fundraising is an integral and very
useful career skill and by assisting in its organization I got to experience first-hand the complexity of coordinating such a large event and the success in its completion.  Since this event is one of the Ecology Center's major yearly fundraisers, my participation in the event was both helpful to them and provided a rewarding experience for myself.  I also
witnessed first-hand several of the theories discussed in the Clemson MPA program. By witnessing the Ecology Center’s role in the community, it presented me with a real life example in understanding why non-profits exist as well as the roles they play in the development of policy.  But most importantly, I managed to integrate both my experience and my knowledge into lessons that I will be able to carry with me in the next
step of my career.
