Automotive Engineering Academic Program

Clemson University offers the nation’s only graduate Department of Automotive Engineering, with over 200 students pursuing advanced degrees in the program. Founded in 2007 in Greenville, SC, the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) is centrally located halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte. 95% of our graduates work in the automotive field, with 26% staying in South Carolina.

At the master's level, students have the option to choose a thesis or internship-based degree - online or in person. Our Graduate Certificate Program features courses at the 6000 or 8000 level, allowing them to apply towards an Automotive Engineering masters or Ph.D. degree.

The Deep Orange Program is a framework that enables graduate students to participate in the product development cycle from concept through validation that integrates product innovations with hands-on experience in vehicle design, engineering, prototyping and production into a hands-on internship. Collaboration with industry is essential to the success of the program.
