Research Interests

Dr. Naghnaeian’s research thrust will largely build upon his theoretical foundations and expertise, in the areas of robust and distributed control and estimation, switching and hybrid systems, Positive and monotone systems, time-delay systems, Adaptive and optimal control, to tackle pressing issues in select engineering applications, focusing on, cyber-physical systems as well as systems biology.

Many modern cyber-physical systems (CPS) are spread over a geographic area and the controllers and plants communicate through some cyber media. This makes such systems potentially susceptible to several issues, which are the subjects of Dr. Naghna’s research, such as:

  • Security of CPS, e.g. actuator/sensor intruders
  • Resiliency of CPS with respect to intermittent communications, computational delays, and component failure
  • Decentralized/Distributed control and estimation for CPS
