CECAS Global Engagement - Planning Ahead for Study Abroad

There is a lot to consider when thinking about an international learning experience, so it is best to begin planning as early as your freshman year. Below are the initial steps to start your journey abroad.

Initial Steps

  1. Attend a Study Abroad 101 session - Learn about program options, financial aid information, how to apply credit earned abroad towards your degree, and get your questions answered! Study Abroad 101 sessions take place on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in E-304 Martin Hall.
  2. Research program options - Utilize the Clemson Abroad website and program search tool to explore study abroad program options.
  3. Meet with a study abroad advisor and their academic advisor - Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisors to discuss academic requirements and to identify potential classes or subjects that they will be able to take while abroad. In addition, students should meet with a Study Abroad Advisor to discuss specific program-related questions that they may have. To schedule an appointment, students should complete the online request form.
  4. Apply to a program - All Clemson students who are planning to study abroad must complete the Clemson Study Abroad application for their chosen program. Program applications are available online.

Application Deadlines:

March 1 - Summer/Fall semester programs
October 1 - Spring semester programs

In all instances, applications are accepted after the deadline as spaces remain. It is each student's responsibility to follow up with program facilitators to confirm deadlines. Space may be limited on exchange programs, so it is important to turn in application materials as early as possible.
