J. Michael Hoffpauir, Ph.D., is Associate Director of the Lyceum Program and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, where he teaches undergraduate courses in political philosophy and American politics. He also teaches for several summer programs in Washington, D.C., as well as for Clemson University Summer Scholars, a one-week program for high school students. Prior to joining the CISC, Hoffpauir taught political philosophy and American politics at Hillsdale College.
Hoffpauir's research interests include ancient and modern political thought, statesmanship and the American founding, and he has published on Plato and Seneca. He is the author of Between Socrates and the Many: A Study of Plato's Crito.
Hoffpauir received a B.A. in Political Science from Louisiana State University, an M.A. in Political Science from Boston College and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Claremont Graduate University.
