About The South Carolina Review

The South Carolina ReviewSince 1968, The South Carolina Review (SCR) has published fiction, poetry, interviews, unpublished letters and manuscripts, essays, and reviews from literary giants such as Joyce Carol Oates and Kurt Vonnegut as well as eminent critics such as Cleanth Brooks and Marjorie Perloff. SCR has grown steadily in all aspects since it was first published at Furman University in 1968 and subsequently moved to Clemson University in 1973. SCR will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary volume in 2018.

SCR belongs to the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) and is indexed in the MLA International Bibliography, Humanities International Complete, Index to Periodical Fiction, and Book Review Index. Content from SCR 37.1 onward is available via ProQuest’s online database (

Editorial and Publications Policy

SCR publishes manuscripts of all kinds: fiction, poetry, essays, and review essays. The editors of SCR thank you for your interest in submitting a manuscript for their consideration.

We prefer electronic submissions (in PDF format only) to Printed manuscripts may be addressed to: The Editors, SCR, 801 Strode Tower, Clemson, SC 29634-0522. Paper submissions should be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope.

No previously published work, work accepted elsewhere, or dual/multiple submissions accepted. Please note that we cannot acknowledge receipt of manuscripts and that we cannot return manuscripts under any conditions. Contributors will receive a copy of the issue in which accepted work appears.

Subscription Information

Individuals may subscribe to The South Carolina Review for one, two, or three years: $28 for one year, $40 for two years, or $54 for three years. Institutional rates are $33 for one year, $47 for two years, and $61 for three years (all include S&H within the US and Canada; add an additional $10 per annum for subscribers outside the US and Canada).
