Emailed Feedback

For those writers who learn best from written feedback and those that have busy professional schedules, we suggest sending your writing to us online and receiving emailed feedback. A Writing Fellow will read your paper, provide constructive feedback through Word comments, and email you the paper when the appointment time concludes. This does not require you to be online at the time of your appointment. Limited to 8 pages per session.

Think Emailed Feedback is for you? Just decide the specific areas or concerns on which you want feedback; send your questions, assignment, and draft through our online form; and wait for our response. It's that easy.

We do not offer line-by-line corrections in Emailed Feedback appointments. Consultants are educators, not editors. They may comment on specific repeated grammatical concerns, but will not “edit” your paper.

To Make an Emailed Feedback Appointment

  1. Select the current semester schedule.
  2. Under each listed name in the schedule, on the right side of the screen, you will see that some consultant names include “Emailed Feedback.” This means that those particular consultants are open for Emailed Feedback appointments.
  3. Appointment boxes are color-coded. White boxes indicate available times. Purple and brown boxes indicate unavailable times. Select a white box at the time that best works with your schedule.
  4. In the form that pops up when you select a white box, you will see a light blue box. It will ask “What kind of appointment would you like?” Select “Schedule Emailed Feedback appointment.”
  5. Fill out the form detailing your assignment, where you are in the writing process, and what you would like to work on in that appointment.
  6. At the bottom of the appointment form there is space to attach up to 3 documents. Follow the prompts to attach your document(s).
    • File attachments must be 1MB or less and in .DOC or .DOCX format.
    • If you do not have your document ready by the time you schedule your appointment, not to worry! Follow the directions below to attach your files!
    • We encourage you to provide the prompt for your writing project. 
  7. Click "Save Appointment." 

To Attach Your Document to Your Appointment After Scheduling:

  1. Upon entering our appointment system, WCOnline, click on "Welcome, [your name]" and then "My Appointments" to see a list of your future appointments.
  2. Select the appointment for which you want to upload a file.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the appointment form and select "Edit Appointment."
  4. At the bottom of the appointment form you can attach up to 3 files.
  5. Select "Browse..." to locate the file(s) you want to attach. Your file must be a .DOC or .DOCX file.
  6. Provide a Document Title for each file, such as "Assignment Description," "Rubric," or "Research Paper Draft."
  7. Click on "Save Changes" at the bottom of the appointment form to update your appointment.

To Receive Emailed Feedback:

  1. Check your email shortly after your chosen time.
  2. You will receive an email from with your feedback attached.

Our Policies

How long does it take? Feedback is not instantaneous, so plan accordingly. Since you are making an Emailed Feedback appointment (effectively reserving time for a consultant to review and respond to your writing), you can decide when you would like to receive feedback. How quickly you can receive feedback depends on demand: occasionally, you may be able to make an online appointment for the same day; other times, our online appointments may be booked several days in advance.

Provide the Assignment: Because good writing (and writing feedback) is contextual, it is crucial that we know the requirements and goals of the writing assignment. You must provide a detailed description of the assignment or writing project in order to receive feedback. This information enables the consultant to tailor feedback to your project's requirements. Please note that submissions that do not include an assignment description will be returned without feedback.

Submission Limits: Each piece of writing is limited to 8 pages typed and double-spaced, or about 3,000 words. Your file must be attached as a .doc or .docx file.

Attaching your Writing: In order to keep your appointment, your file(s) must be attached prior to the appointment's start time. If your writing is not attached to the appointment within 5 minutes of when it is scheduled to begin, the appointment will be recorded as a missed appointment. Our Consultants provide written feedback using the comments feature of Microsoft Word, so we require documents be uploaded as a .doc or .docx file.

Meet with a Consultant: Receiving feedback via e-mail is a great option for writers who learn best from written feedback or whose schedules make it difficult to meet with a consultant one-on-one. However, if you do have time to meet with a consultant synchronously online, you can expect even more assistance from these productive individual consultations.

Repeat Appointments: We want to support you as a writer, and many other Clemson students are just like you. If you have an ongoing project you're working on, we suggest that you make future appointments with the same consultant after you have discussed your project and made revisions. You may make one repeat appointment per week. Keep in mind that others also need appointments. Students can make three appointments per week. This can vary depending on need.

Your Work: We want to support you in becoming a stronger and more effective writer. To do this, we need to work with you on your own writing. Please do not submit work for friends. Encourage them to make their own appointments with us. 

Late Arrivals: Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late to your scheduled appointment, that appointment will be noted as a no-show and may be given to a walk-in.

Cancellation Policy: We can help at any point in the writing process. This means that you do not need to cancel your appointment if you don’t have an entire draft completed! However, we understand that there are circumstances in which an appointment must be cancelled.
