Student Support

The Writing Lab supports both undergraduate and graduate students in their writing journey, helping them develop strong writing skills, refine their scholarly work, and succeed academically and professionally.

We offer a safe and non-judgmental space for students to express their ideas and receive constructive criticism. Students can discuss their writing concerns, ask questions, and receive guidance without fear of judgment or negative evaluation. The writing consultants are trained to provide constructive feedback that focuses on strengths and areas for improvement, empowering students to grow and develop as writers.

Helping students navigate the complexities of different writing tasks, such as essays, research papers, lab reports, and personal statements, is at the core of what we do. The consultants can assist writers with understanding assignment prompts, developing strong arguments, conducting research, and citing sources correctly. This support ensures that students meet the specific requirements of their assignments (as well as other writing needs) and develop the necessary skills for effective writing.

NDA-Safe Environments Available

At the Writing Lab, we prioritize confidentiality and respect for students' privacy. We understand that some writing projects may involve sensitive or personal information. Specific standards for privacy may be demanded by private clients for research projects. Therefore, we offer NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) safe appointments to ensure the utmost confidentiality and protection of your work.

During these appointments, you can discuss and share your writing projects freely, knowing that your work and any related discussions will remain strictly confidential. Our writing consultants are trained in handling confidential information and adhere to strict ethical guidelines. We provide a safe and secure environment where you can feel comfortable sharing your ideas, concerns, and creative works. Rest assured that your client's privacy is our top priority, and we are committed to maintaining a trusted and confidential space for all students who utilize our writing center services.

Distraction-Free Options

In the Writing Lab, we understand the importance of providing a distraction-free writing environment to promote focused and productive writing sessions. Our dedicated writing spaces are designed to minimize distractions and create an atmosphere conducive to concentration and creativity. We offer comfortable and quiet work areas equipped with ample desk space, ergonomic seating, and appropriate lighting.

The Writing Lab has low-light areas and various seating options. We also provide access to writing tools, reference materials, and technology resources that support uninterrupted writing. By providing distraction-free writing environments, we aim to help writers minimize external disruptions and maximize their writing potential, allowing for deep engagement with their ideas and the writing process.

Neurodivergence Welcome

At the Writing Lab, we strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students, including those who are neurodivergent. We recognize and value the diverse ways in which individuals process information, learn, and engage with writing. We aim to provide support that is sensitive to the unique needs and strengths of neurodivergent students.

Our writing consultants undergo training to better understand neurodivergent perspectives and develop strategies to foster a positive and supportive experience. We offer flexible accommodations and communication styles tailored to individual preferences, such as providing written instructions, visual aids, or extended session times. Likewise, we understand if you'd like to stand or grab a fidget item from our bookshelf.

By embracing neurodivergence, we aim to ensure that all students have equal opportunities to thrive in their writing endeavors and feel empowered to express themselves effectively.

Student Groups and Organizations

Student groups and organizations can use the Writing Lab in various ways to enhance their collective writing skills and improve their overall communication as a community. We value all student groups on campus and have worked with several to organize support for their respective writing needs.

  • Writing Workshops: The Writing Lab can organize workshops specifically tailored to the needs of student groups and organizations. These workshops can focus on specific writing genres, such as grant proposals, research papers, or reports. They can also cover topics like effective communication, presentation skills, or crafting persuasive arguments.
  • Collaborative Writing Sessions: The Writing Lab can facilitate collaborative writing sessions for student groups. These sessions provide an opportunity for members to work together on a writing project under the guidance of a Writing Lab staff member. This can be beneficial for group assignments, research papers, or joint reports, allowing participants to pool their ideas and talents.

By leveraging the resources and expertise of the Writing Lab, student groups and organizations can enhance their writing skills, develop effective communication strategies, and produce high-quality written materials.

Some student groups and organizations that have collaborated with us before include: The Tiger, The Chronicle, The Aurantiaco, and the Clemson tour guides.
