4-H State Recognition

Youth Members

4-H Presidential Tray

This educational scholarship is designed to recognize the top four Senior 4-H members who are National 4-H Congress and/or National 4-H Conference alumni and have outstanding accomplishments in 4-H leadership, citizenship, and project work. National 4-H Conference 

This trip (and a small educational scholarship) is awarded to four Senior 4-H members with outstanding achievement in leadership and citizenship. Selection is based upon 4-H portfolio (102 KB, PDF) and an interview.  For more information about the award and scholarship, click on National 4-H Conference

National 4-H Congress 

This trip (and small educational scholarship) is awarded to Senior 4-H members with outstanding achievement in their 4-H projects and activities. Selection is based upon the overall highest score for their 4-H portfolio (PDF).For more information about this trip and scholarship. click on National 4-H Congress.

Spirit of 4-H Award

The Spirit of 4-H Award recognizes outstanding spirit in the 4-H program.  This individual is one who exemplifies the four Hs (Heard, Heart Health and Hands)..

To nominate a 4-H member in good standing, submit a one-page overview of the member’s 4-H involvement.  The person can be nominated by Extension employees, 4-H volunteers of self-nomination.  The 4-H’ers should be a Junior or Senior in High School to be nominated.

The following criteria will be used to judge each area:

  • Impact in the Community  
  • Impact on 4-H Program               
  • Program Responsibility  
  • Level of Involvement in the County Program 
  • Level of Involvement in the State Program

National 4-H Project Contests 

Individual projects areas may receive special funding or sponsorships in order to provide qualified Senior members with various Regional and National educational trips and contests related to that specific project area. These members will be selected through criteria established by the State 4-H Specialist for that project area.

Adult Volunteers

Glen Krohn Award 

This award recognizes outstanding volunteer leadership in the 4-H program. It is named for the late Dr. Glen Krohn, retired Assistant Director, Family and Youth Development. Dr. Krohn was a strong believer in volunteers throughout his career, having as one of his philosophical mottos the statement, “Volunteerism is the price you pay for the space you take”. The 4-H Presidential Tray awards are designed to recognize the top four Senior 4-H Members who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in 4-H leadership, citizenship, and project work. Only 4-H Members who are National 4-H Congress and/or National 4-H Conference alumni, and who have not reached their 19th birthday (as of Jan. 1 of the current year) are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a Portfolio signed by the County Agent and 8 copies of a professional style cover letter and  8 copies of the 4-H Resume to the State 4-H Office by 4:30 PM May 1st (this means physically in the office not postmarked) or next business day when May 1st falls on a weekend. Those teens judged to be the top individuals (receive the highest total points) will qualify for an interview. Interviews will be conducted prior to State 4-H Congress.   The teens with the highest combine score (portfolios 1/3, resume 1/3 and interview 1/3) will receive the 4-H Presidential Tray Award and an educational scholarship.

Scholarships must be used for educational endeavors and must be pre-approved by the State 4-H Office. These scholarships must be requested during the first year after graduation.  Winners will be announced during the State 4-H Congress. Recipients must attend the State Congress Reception and Banquet to receive their award.

 For More Information about National 4-H Conference

Senior 4-H Members who will be 4-H age at the year of the trip (under age 19 by January 1, the year of the trip)  and in good standing, may submit a 4-H Portfolio and a note indicating their interest in National 4-H Conference. 4-H Portfolios must be signed by the County Extension Agent and received by the State 4-H Office by 4:30 PM May 1st (this means physically in the office not postmarked) or next business day when May 1stfalls on a weekend. Those teens submitting the 4-H Portfolios that are judged to be the top individuals (receive the highest points) will qualify for an interview. Interviews will be conducted prior to State 4-H Congress. The teens with the highest combine score (portfolio 40% and interview 60%) will receive an all-expense paid trip to National 4-H Conference and an educational scholarship.  The year of the application must be a delegate to State Congress to receive the award.

Winners must attend National 4-H Conference in order to receive their educational scholarship. If the winner is unable to attend National 4-H Conference, they must notify the State 4-H Office prior to the national registration deadlines, or they will be responsible for any expenses incurred on their behalf. Scholarships must be used for educational endeavors and must be pre-approved by the State 4-H Office. The scholarships must be requested the first year after graduation.  Winners will be announced during the State 4-H Congress.

Senior 4-H Members who are age 14 (as of Jan. 1 of current year) may submit their 4-H Portfolio for comment, but they are not eligible to compete for the trip or scholarship.

 For More Information about National 4-H Congress

Senior 4-H Members (ages 15-19 - as of Jan.1 of the current year - and in good standing) may submit a 4-H Portfolio. 4-H Portfolios must be signed by the County Extension Agent and received by the State 4-H Office by 4:30 PM May 1st (this means physically in the office not postmarked) or next business day when May 1st  falls on a weekend. Those teens submitting the 4-H Portfolios that are judged to up to the top best ten (receive the highest points) will receive an all-expense paid trip to National 4-H Congress and an educational scholarship.  Recipients are strongly encouraged to attend State 4-H Congress and are required to attend the State Congress Reception and Banquet.

Winners must attend National 4-H Congress in order to receive their educational scholarship. If the winner is unable to attend National 4-H Congress, they must notify the State 4-H Office prior to the national registration deadlines, or they will be responsible for any expenses incurred on their behalf. Scholarships must be used for educational endeavors and must be pre-approved by the State 4-H Office. Winners will be announced during the State 4-H Congress.
