OER Faculty Award

stipend page

Clemson Online and Clemson Libraries, with funding from the IT Student Advisory Board (ITSAB), and support from Clemson Online and the Undergraduate Student Government (CUSG), seeks proposals for the implementation of Open Educational Resources into existing Clemson courses. Open Educational Resources (OER) are instructional materials, such as textbooks and homework systems, that are openly licensed, free to use and allow unlimited distribution and modification.

In order to support affordable learning across campus and improve student outcomes, we are offering $2,000 to one faculty member from each college to assist with course revisions. Awards are funded by the participating organizations and will be disbursed to the winners as taxable dual employment income after successful project completion.

Not sure where to begin? The Clemson Libraries and Clemson Online are here to help! We’ll work with you to find alternative resources, redesign syllabi and assignments, and explore the world of Open Education.

Eligibility: Current teaching faculty (all ranks)

Requirements: Adopt, adapt, or create OER to replace existing materials in a course currently offered at Clemson University. Preference will be given to proposals using materials licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license or similar, but faculty may also choose to implement alternative affordable resources.

Selection Committee: Representatives from the Clemson University Libraries, Clemson Online and the Clemson Undergraduate Student Government will review applications and determine winners.

Evaluation Criteria:

  1. Total projected savings for Clemson students
  2. Applicant’s preparation to successfully implement OER
  3. Creativity and breadth of proposed adoption/adaptation/creation
