Introduction to Commercial Modular Construction
ONLINE COURSE
Introduction to Commercial Modular Construction is a professional-development course developed by Clemson University and the Modular Building Institute (MBI). Our goal is to introduce you to the terminology, concepts, and process of commercial modular construction. We will explore the whole process of modular construction from the establishment of client needs, through design and fabrication, transportation, and installation of the modules. You will be able to differentiate between modular construction vs. off-site construction in terms of scheduling, sustainability, return on investment, logistics, quality, and the roles of key participants. If you are interested in breaking into the modular building industry, this course is an excellent way to jumpstart your career!

Format
This is a non-credit course offered as professional development. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate documenting 1.5 CEUs.
The course is designed as a series of six self-paced modules. Each module is composed of a series of lessons, which are composed of presentations, videos, readings, documents, quizzes, and activities. The course is aimed at working professionals who can access the course at any time for their convenience.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites to participate in this course. A general knowledge of the construction industry will be helpful, but is not required.
Computer Requirements
Since this course delivers lecture, video, and other material via the internet, the participant must have access to a desktop computer, a laptop, or a tablet (iPad, Android). If you're using a computer, we recommend one that is 5 years old or newer. At least 1GB of RAM is required. Click here for more details.
A broadband (DSL, Cable, etc) internet service is required to access learning content.
The course content is accessed via your web browser, so no special software is required. Adobe Flash is NOT required, though it may enhance your experience.
On a tablet (iPad and Android), a free mobile application is offered for ease of use. Search your application store for the “Canvas by Instructure” app. To use an iPad, it must be able to run iOS 8 or newer. An Android device must be able to Android 4.0.3 or newer.
