Dr. Xiaoyong (Brian) Yuan is an Assistant Professor in the Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor at the College of Computing at Michigan Technological University. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Florida in 2020, his M.E. in software engineering from Peking University in 2015, and his B.S. degree in mathematics from Fudan University in 2012. He was the recipient of the ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award in 2022 and the Michigan Tech ICC Achievement Award in 2022. He is now an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (TNNLS).

Research

Dr. Yuan’s research interests span the fields of machine learning, security & privacy, and edge computing. His recent research areas include 1) machine learning security, privacy, and safety and 2) efficient and distributed machine learning. Dr. Yuan has published papers in prestigious journals and conferences, e.g., AAAI, USENIX Security, IEEE TDSC, IEEE TNNLS, and IEEE ICDCS. His research is currently supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), ORAU, and private industry.
