Our Michelin Mud Stuff Goes Here
- Soil-Tire Measurement, sponsored by Michelin, Aug 2007 - Present.
This design project consists of developing a system for testing the behavior of off road tires' ability to clean themselves of mud. The foundation for this work lies in simulating real-world conditions experienced by tires in a controlled environment. The design of equipment will encompass sampling of mud tires for the tests, packing of the mud to a repeatable standard, simulating the actual "driving event" test, and collecting data from the test to be processed. Ultimately, relationships of tread pattern geometry and the self-cleaning characteristics will be formed to assist in the future design of off-road tires. 3-D modeling and FEA for this project are being conducted using SolidWorks and CosmosWorks software packages.
