Saeed Farahani joined Clemson University in 2023 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Automotive Engineering and the Associate Director of Clemson Composites Center. Prior to joining CUICAR, he was an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Cleveland State University since 2021. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University and a Ph.D. in Automotive Engineering (manufacturing field) from Clemson University.
Dr. Farahani’s research and educational activities are directed toward realizing the concept of Convergent Manufacturing, which broadly refers to synergistically integrating advanced manufacturing technologies, processes, and materials into a unified platform for more efficient, flexible, and customizable production. He is the founding director of the Convergent Manufacturing Lab (CML) at Clemson University, where his group pursues two main research tracks focusing on hybrid and smart manufacturing systems. He also teaches courses on the topics of advanced composites manufacturing, applied design optimization, and smart/digital manufacturing.
Farahani has more than 10 years of experience in the industry in the roles of engineer, technical manager, and entrepreneur. His industrial experience includes designing and supervising the fabrication of more than 200 special tools and machinery for plastics, composites, and sheet metal parts, and manufacturing optimization for several mass-produced products such as polymeric cages for bearings and special fasteners for high-performance applications.
Dr. Farahani serves as an associate editor for SAE Journal of Sustainable Transportation, Energy, Environment, & Policy (STEEP), the chair of the Advanced Materials Manufacturing Technical Committee in ASME Manufacturing Engineering Division, and a board member of the Injection Molding Division in the Society of Plastic Engineers.
