Saeed Farahani joined the Automotive Engineering department of Clemson University in January 2019 as a Postdoctoral Fellow and was later promoted to a Research Assistant Professor. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University and Ph.D. in Automotive Engineering (manufacturing field) from Clemson University.

His research is primarily in the field of advanced manufacturing, particularly in the areas of integrative and networked manufacturing systems. His research has integrated analytical models, numerical simulations, statistical and machine learning methods, sensors, and industrial IoT solutions to advance manufacturing systems for sheet metals, polymers, and composites. His recent work spans topics in developing hybrid manufacturing processes based on the integration of injection and forming processes, enhancing plastics and composites manufacturing using Industry 4.0 technologies, and innovative fabrication of multi-material, 3D sandwich structures. His current research is being conducted in developing a digital life cycle for Rapid Large Additive Manufacturing Prototype (RLAMP) process, modeling of the Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) process, and development of novel manufacturing techniques for multi-functional composites and in-mold electronics.

Dr. Farahani has more than 10 years of working in industry in the roles of engineer, technical manager, and entrepreneur. His industrial experience includes: design and supervising the fabrication of more than 200 molds, dies, and special tools for plastics, composites, and sheet metal parts; design and launching batch production of several types of machinery such as pulverizers for high-impact plastics, fully-automated stretch-blow molding machines, and liquid/paste filling machines; and manufacturing optimization and tooling enhancement for several mass-produced products such as polymeric cages for roller bearings and clinch fasteners for advanced high strength steel (AHSS) sheets.

Dr. Farahani also serves as an associate editor for SAE Journal of Sustainable Transportation, Energy, Environment, & Policy (STEEP), board member of Society of Plastic Engineering (SPE, Injection Molding Division), co-chair of Advanced Materials Manufacturing Track in ASME International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC), and one of the scientific committee of the International Symposium on Plastics Technology, RWTH Aachen University (ISPT).
