Dr. Morteza Sabet joined the Department of Automotive Engineering as an Assistant Professor in August 2026. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Research Assistant Professor in the department beginning in 2021. He also served as one of the faculty advisors for the Deep Orange program from 2022 to 2026. Sabet holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Florida Atlantic University and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Materials Engineering from the University of Tehran and Isfahan University of Technology, respectively. His current research spans three areas:
Materials design, synthesis, and processing
New materials play a key role in advancing existing technologies and enabling new applications. Sabet’s research focuses on understanding how materials can be engineered at the nanoscale to achieve targeted properties at the macroscale. To this end, his group employs novel synthesis and processing approaches to tune the microstructure, morphology, and composition of materials.
Rechargeable batteries
Next-generation rechargeable batteries rely heavily on innovative materials. A core theme of Dr. Sabet’s research is the development of materials for rechargeable batteries, including active materials, multifunctional materials at interfaces, and other battery components, with the goal of improving energy density, safety, and lifetime.
Bridging materials innovation and manufacturing
Advancing new materials is only the first step. To realize their potential, Dr. Sabet’s research addresses the translation of materials innovation into manufacturable components and products for real-world systems. He actively collaborates with faculty in manufacturing and industry partners to move promising materials closer to practical applications.
