Research Interests:

Polymer Fibers, Films, and Composites

Prof. Amod Ogale together with his students and post-doctoral associates are conducting research on high-performance carbon fibers, polymeric films, and composites. The Ogale group focuses on processing-microstructure-property relationships during fiber spinning, film extrusion, and composite formation. His research team is pioneering the use of petroleum and biomass-derived precursors for high-performance and cost-competitive carbon fibers and their composites. Research on nanocomposites is exploring the use of boron nitride nanoplatelets and graphite nanoparticles to enhance thermal and electrical conductivity.

Prof. Ogale has been recognized as a Fellow of three professional societies: American Carbon Society (ACS), Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE), and Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). He is the recipient of the 2013 Graffin Lecturer Award from the American Carbon Society and 2016 SABIC Composites Educator of the Year Award from Society of Plastics Engineers. He has published six book chapters, one patent, and over 150 research papers. Prof. Ogale has actively participated as PI and co-PI in an interdisciplinary research project worth $40 million. He has developed and teaches interdisciplinary courses on carbon fibers, films, and composite materials.
