  • How Old is Your Course? (Blackboard) 

    To find out the age of your course:

    1. Navigate to your course within Blackboard.
    2. Click on Content Collection in the Control Panel.
    3. Click on the Course ID for this particular course.
    4. You will see “Course Content: UserID-NameOfCourse” in the banner area.
    5. Click on the drop-down menu to the right.
    6. Choose Edit Settings.
    7. You will see “Created On” in the list of information. If it is older than 5 years the course will be put on the deletion list.
  • Deleting your Old/Un-used Courses (Course Central) 

    Many instructors have old courses or copies of their courses that they are no longer using.  

    To delete a Blackboard Learn course from Course Central, navigate to the following URL: http://central.clemson.edu and enter your network username and Password. Then:

    1. Select the checkbox beside the course you wish to delete.
    2. At the top of your course list are tool icons. The second icon from the left is the Delete icon. Click on this icon.
    3. You will be presented with a panel asking what you want to do. If you are the only owner of the course, you can safely select the Trash Course option.
    4. The course now "lives" in the Courses Pending Deletion panel at the bottom left of your screen.
    5. To completely delete this course, make sure that it is selected and then click the red X "Remove" icon.
    6. To save these changes, click Save All at the top left of your screen.
  • Create New Courses (Course Central) 

    To create a new Blackboard Learn course from Course Central, navigate to the following URL: http://central.clemson.edu and enter your network Username and Password. Then:

    1. Click the New button in the Courses area toolbar.
    2. The Create Course pop-up window will be displayed.
    3. The beginning prefix of your course will be displayed. For example, if your username is MEMARSH, your Course ID will begin with MEMARSH. There is a limit of 24 characters.
    4. Enter additional course identifiers in the field provided. For example, if your class code is CU101, you could enter CU-101.
    5. Then click Create.
    6. The new course will be displayed in the Courses area. Notice that on the right side of the course the word (unsaved) is highlighted in red. At this point this course has not been saved.
    7. To save this new course, click Save All.
  • Link Available Sections (Course Central) 

    To link your Available Sections (which contain your course rosters) to your Blackboard Learn course from Course Central:

    1. In the Courses area, locate the Blackboard Learn Course to link your Course Roster.
    2. Click the triangle at the right to expand the course.
    3. Next, locate the Available Sections to link to the selected Blackboard Learn course in the Available Sections area
    4. Drag and drop the Available Sections to link to the Links tab of the selected Blackboard Learn course.
    5. Alternatively, you can click the Add button () to select multiple sections to link.
    6. The Available section is displayed on the Links tab of the Blackboard Learn course.
    7. Notice that on the right side of the Blackboard Learn course the words (unsaved) are highlighted in red.
    8. At this point this course has not been saved.
    9. To save this link, click Save All.
    10. To verify that your student roll was transferred to your Blackboard course, open your web browser and navigate to Blackboard Learn.
    11. Check the Photo Class roll under Course Tools, the Grade Center, or Users under the Users and Groups section of the Control Panel to ensure that your students have been populated.

    Note: If the students don't show up in one of the sections mentioned above, wait a few minutes and then check again. If they don't show up within a couple of hours contact ITHELP@clemson.edu.

  • Add an Instructor or TA to your course (Course Central) 

    1. Open your web browser and login to Course Central at central.clemson.edu
    2. Select the name of your course from the Courses panel located in the middle of your screen.
    3. Select the Owner's tab
    4. Type in the Username of the additional instructor or TA
    5. Click the Add(+) icon
    6. When you are finished adding people to your course, click the "Save All" icon at the upper left of your Course Central screen.
    7. After you see the "save successful" message appear in the lower right hand corner of your screen you are finished and can return to Blackboard

    Note: Adding additional owners (Instructors & TAs) to your Blackboard Learn Course only gives them access to Blackboard. If they need to have access to enter grades into iRoar, or to modify or deploy the Student Assessment of Instructors then they need to be added by the departmental scheduler into iRoar.

  • After you add a TA to your course (Blackboard) 

    If you have added a TA to your course, you will now need to change their role from Instructor to Teaching Assistant. This must be done from within Blackboard:

    1. Open your web browser and login to Blackboard.
    2. Navigate to your Blackboard Learn course.
    3. From the Control Panel, click the chevron to expand Users and Groups.
    4. Then click the Users link.
    5. The Users page is displayed.
    6. Click the chevron to the right of the Username. Then select Change User's Role in Course.
    7. The Change User's Role in Course page is displayed.
    8. Select the Teaching Assistant radio button.
    9. Then click Submit.
    10. The User's page is displayed with the updated role.

    Note: Adding additional owners (Instructors & TAs) to your Blackboard Learn Course only gives them access to Blackboard. If they need to have access to enter grades into iRoar, or to modify or deploy the Student Assessment of Instructors then they need to be added by the departmental scheduler into iRoar.

  • Copying the Contents from one Course to another (Blackboard) 

    To copy course content:

    1. Log in to Blackboard and navigate to your old course.
    2. Select "Packages and Utilities" from the Course Management menu
    3. Select "Course Copy" and the Copy Course panel will appear
    4. To set the Destination Course ID to be your newly created course, click on the Browse button. A listing of all courses in which you are an instructor will appear. Select your new course and click on the Submit button. The destination box will now list your new course as the Destination Course
    5. Check the box next to any content you wish to copy or choose Select All to copy everything
    6. Click Submit. You will receive an email when the action is complete
    7. Navigate to new course to verify process worked correctly
    8. IMPORTANT: Close the banner notification stating "Source username-Course | Destination Course is Complete. To access the detailed log, click here", by clicking on the "x" symbol on the right end of the banner. This banner will prevent the Photo Class Roll from displaying in the new course
  • Archive/Save your course (Blackboard) 

    To archive/save your course:

    1. Navigate to Packages and utilities in the Control Panel
    2. Click on Export/Archive Course, then Archive Course
    3. Choose the settings you prefer or leave the default settings and click Submit.
    4. You will receive an email when the process is complete
    5. At that time, navigate back to the Export/Archive Course area or refresh the area and the zip file of your archive will be available. Click on the link to download and save the file.
    6. If you ever need to restore your course, contact ithelp@clemson.edu and they will assist you with the restoration.
  • Download your Grade Center (Blackboard) 

    To Download/Save your Grade Center:

    1. Open your course's Grade Center
    2. Select "Work Offline" and "Download"
    3. Select Tab delimited and decide if you want to include hidden information
    4. Provide a download location
    5. Select the Submit button
