Reportable Diseases in SC

The following are to be reported immediately to the State Veterinarians office when diagnosed or suspected. (last updated October 2001; last reviewed September 2006)
- African Horse Sickness
- African Swine Fever
- All foreign and Exotic Diseases and Parasites of Animals and Birds
- Anthrax
- Avian Infectious Laryngotracheitis
- Babesiosis (Babesia bovis, B. bigemina)
- Brucellosis
- Cattle Tick Fever
- Contagious Equine Metritis
- Dourine (Trypamosoma equiperdum)
- Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis (EEE)
- Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA)
- Equine Viral Arteritis
- Erysipelas
- Foot and Mouth Disease
- Glanders - Burkholderia mallei (formerly Pseudomonas mallei)
- Heartwater (Cowdria ruminentium)
- Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (Fowl Plague)
- Hog Cholera
- Newcastle Disease (Exotic)
- OIE Listed Diseases (formerly A&B lists)
- Paratuberculosis Johnes Disease
- Pseudorabies
- Pullorum Fowl Typhoid
- Q Fever (Coxiella burnetii)
- Rabies coordinated with DHEC
- Rinderpest
- Scrapie
- Screwworm (Cochliomyia hominworox)
- Tuberculosis
- Venezuelan Equine Encephalomyelitis (VEE)
- Vesicular Exanthema
- Vesicular Stomatitis
- West Nile (WNV) Encephalitis
- Western Equine Encephalomyelitis(WEE)
The State Veterinarian may declare other diseases as reportable.
Reportable Disease in SC By Clinical Symptoms:
- Sore Mouth-Muzzle - especially if accompanied by foot, udder, vulva or skin lesions (Blisters-Vesicles)
Ex: Foot & Mouth, Vesicular Stomatitis, etc.
- Encephalitis (CNS) Conditions in All Animals and Birds.
Ex: Eastern, Western and Venezuelan Equine Encephalomylitis, West Nile Encephalitis
- Pseudorabies, Bovine Spongioform Encephalopaty (BSE)
- Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis
- High Death Loss especially over a short period and in older animals past several weeks old.
Ex: Hog Cholera, Erysipelas, Anthrax, Acute Septicemias
- Reproductive Problems
Ex: Brucellosis, Pseudorabies, Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM)
- Any Highly Unusual Condition Disease or parasites differing from conditions one is familiar with.
Ex: All foreign and exotic diseases and parasites, unusual symptomatolgy of any kind.
