Water and energy resources, management, policy, and economics

Theme Leader: Dr. Jeffery Allen, South Carolina Water Resources Center

This theme addresses the need for integrated water and energy resource planning and decision support, including a systems level approach for understanding how water and energy policies, regulations, and economics impact the reliability and sustainability of water and energy systems.

Theme-related topics include:

  • Water and energy management and policy
  • Economics including CAPEX versus OPEX tradeoffs, and carbon tax implications
  • Societal issues (stakeholders) including communications
  • Water and energy security
  • Regulatory/compliance issues
  • Urbanization, renewal of aging infrastructure, and climate change as technology drivers
  • Co-location of water and energy production facilities to improve overall resource efficiency
