Engineering has the power to improve the quality of life and is impacting those with access to its benefits. There are a variety of opportunities for Clemson engineering students to travel abroad and be exposed to unique cultures and customs. There are also ongoing, unique projects that allow Clemson University students to apply practical knowledge and gain hands-on experience while making valuable contributions to improve the living conditions of those that don't have access to things we take for granted, such as clean water and electricity.
We invite all CECAS students to accept the challenge and make a difference by getting involved and growing through these rewarding international project opportunities. CECAS Abroad Programs include:
Exchange programs involve the reciprocal movement of students between two institutions. This could be a student-to-student exchange, or a specified number of incoming students may be accepted per outgoing student.
Example: A Clemson student applies through the Study Abroad Office to participate in an exchange at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Once selected, the Clemson student enrolls at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, and the University of Strathclyde sends one of its students to study at Clemson. Each student chooses courses at his/her host university that are needed for their major. The Clemson student will pay Clemson in-state tuition to Clemson, and all other fees are paid directly to the host university. Credits from the University of Strathclyde will transfer back to Clemson based on course equivalencies determined by individual Clemson academic departments.
Each year CECAS faculty lead study abroad programs (often in the summer), and classes that have a study-abroad component. These programs allow students to enroll in classes at Clemson (thus avoiding any transfer issues). These courses provide organized travel, lodging, administration, and excursions, making for a hassle-free study-abroad experience.
Global E³ is a network of engineering and science universities around the world. Clemson's participation in the Global E³ program enables CES students to go abroad to universities in Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and the United States while earning credit at home. Global E³ works like all other Clemson University exchange programs in terms of duration, costs, and credits.
Intense collaboration with peers from the University of Guanajuato in Mexico in the creative application of general engineering knowledge in solving an open-ended design problem provided by a sponsor typically external to the university and with operations in SC and abroad. Progress is evaluated by an international faculty jury. International student teams present results to the jury and sponsor through written reports and online oral presentations addressing Clemson University's global competency outcome. Open to all students requiring ME 4020 to graduate. Students must have completed all required 3000-level ME courses and ME 4010 before enrolling in this course.
