Palmetto Bluff Conservancy Objects

  • Pocket knife from various angles
  • Handle from various angles

Two heavily corroded objects, a pocket knife and handle, were brought to the WLCC by Palmetto Bluff Conservancy for treatment after they were excavated from a coastal island between 2004-2009. Both objects had evidence of salt migration, heavy metal corrosion, and iron staining. The conservators at the WLCC were able to restore a more visually cohesive appearance to the objects by reducing the bulbous corrosion and staining and straightening out the metal.
