Revolutionary War Sword and 1785 Rifle
The WLCC conservators are currently working on the stabilization and treatment of a Revolutionary War sword and a 1785 rifle, both part of the Clemson University collection. The sword belonged to General Andrew Pickens, and the 1785 rifle was altered in the 1850s and was used by his brother-in-law, Johns Ewing Calhoun Sr. Their treatment involved the removal of potentially damaging non-original deposits and corrosion products. The application of a protective coating to the artifacts is also being considered.
