Logos

Because of their value to Clemson, any mark that is intended to represent the University is the property of the University and must fit all the University guidelines. Logos may not be used for commercial purposes without prior approval of the Trademarks and Licensing Office.

Structure

To maintain brand consistency, a five-level system clarifies current logos and helps bring consistency to any future marks. Any logo variations must be approved in advance by University Relations. Contact Creative Services to initiate design of all logos.

Level-One Logos

These logos are the strongest visible symbols of Clemson and represent the entire University. The wordmark and Tiger Paw may be used noncommercially* by anyone at the University as long as used appropriately within the guidelines set forth in this manual. The seal’s use is restricted to the president, board of trustees, and groups and uses created or designated by the president’s office.

University Wordmark

  • The rules and the word “University” must be the same color, either purple (Regalia) or white (Fort Hill).
  • If printed in black and white, the logo may be printed solid black.
  • Not recommended: the logo may be reproduced entirely in Clemson Orange. Any other color variations must be approved in advance by Creative Services.
  • Registration ® mark must always be used.

  • Registration ® mark must always be used.

University Seal

  • Restricted to the president, board of trustees, and groups and uses created or designated by the president’s office. The seal appears on certificates that (1) are signed by the president, (2) are signed by the chair of the Board of Trustees, or (3) recognize a Universitywide award.

Level-Three Logos

These marks visually pair Clemson with a college, department, function or unit name in a way that provides a unique name with universitywide graphic unity.

Guidelines and Examples

  • All logos at this level must be approved by Creative Services.
  • The Tiger Paw or academic symbol may be used as part of the design, but no other symbol is allowed, except in instances where a University seal is determined to be appropriate and within guidelines.
  • The college, department or unit name should be set in Trade Gothic Bold No. 2, in all capital letters and on no more than two lines.
  • When names begin with “College of” or “School of,” that portion should be set in upper and lower case (see examples) and cannot be excluded from the logo’s design. “Department of,” “Division of” and “Office of” should not be used.
  • In some instances "Institute for" and "Center of/for" versions will be created at this level. Those logos should be treated in the same way as college and school logos. In the case a unit is named for a donor it should be typeset in all caps.
  • The registration ® mark must appear in the upper right corner of the logo as in the examples.

Level-Four Logos

This is a broad group of subbrands such as alumni groups, funded student clubs and organizations, special projects and ongoing programs. For brand unity, these brands must contain a wordmark or Tiger Paw, with Clemson Orange incorporated into the mark’s design.

Guidelines and Examples

  • All logos at this level must be approved by Creative Services.
  • Include either a wordmark or a Tiger Paw.
  • Use the academic symbol if “Clemson” set in Goudy is part of the design.
  • Use brand fonts and the brand color palette.
  • Include Clemson Orange in the design.
  • Include a registration ® mark in the upper right corner of the word "Clemson."

  • Clemson Club Logos, Clemson University, South Carolina

Level-Five Logos

These product brands have significant recognition or equity in the marketplace beyond that of Clemson and may be multi-institutional. Preferably, these marks incorporate brand fonts, Clemson Orange and a wordmark or Tiger Paw. If not, the words “Clemson University” are required. If an agreement with other institutions prevents that, the words “Clemson University” need to be used as part of the mark’s design when appearing in University promotional, communications or event materials.

Guidelines and Examples

  • All logos at this level must be approved by Creative Services.
  • Level five logos preferably use a wordmark or Tiger Paw and brand fonts and Clemson Orange in design.
  • If brand fonts and/or Clemson Orange are not incorporated, the words “Clemson University” must be part of the mark.
  • If “Clemson University” is not part of the group’s official name, the words must be used as part of the logo’s design when appearing in University promotional, communications or event materials.
  • A registration ® mark must appear in the upper right corner of the words Clemson or Tigers.
