2021 Cherry Braswell Rutland Memorial Award Recipient

Alexis DavisAward Recipient: Alexis Davis

Alexis Davis is currently a sophomore at Clemson majoring in Architecture and minoring in Financial Management and Non Profit Leadership. As I grew older and started spending more time in my parent's hometown of Kinston, North Carolina, I realized I wanted to do something useful with my future degree. Many of the areas in the U.S., like Kinston, have lots of abandoned homes and homeless populations. My goal is to earn a degree and license in architecture, take classes concerning restoration and renovation, and bring back the color and youth to small towns in the U.S., starting with Kinston. When that’s accomplished, the rest of my career will be dedicated to helping the homeless epidemic with more effective shelters.

“It is with great pride that I accept this award. Ethics has always played a huge role in how I live and experience life. I am extremely thankful to the Rutland Institute of Ethics for the opportunity that I have been given. It is a good feeling to know that my interpretation of ethics and ethical decision making has enabled me to continue my studies at Clemson University.

My experiences at Clemson have taught me many things about becoming a leader. One of those things being: you can not be a true leader without being ethical. It is my hope that this idea becomes more common, so that one day we can all live in a brighter, fairer, and more ethical society.”
