International Travel
J-1 scholars, and any J-2 dependents, require a valid travel signature on their DS-2019 in order to re-enter the U.S. J-2 dependents are expected to travel internationally if the J-1 scholar will be out of the U.S. for an extended period of time. The travel signature is valid for 12 months and can be used for multiple entries to the U.S.
Non-program related travel can be approved for a maximum duration of 30 days to ensure there are no gaps in J program objectives. Program-related travel can be approved for international travel exceeding 30 days.
To request a travel signature, please submit the international travel request to IS prior to your departure from the U.S. Review the recommended travel documents below.
