Certified Swine Sample Collector Program

The national Certified Swine Sample Collector Program was created that in the event of a large-scale foreign animal disease affecting the United States, there would be a team of industry trained first responders to assist State and Federal animal health officials to determine where disease is present and support the permitted movement of animals from disease free areas.

For an overview of the national program and requirements to participate, visit the Secure Pork Supply’s Certified Swine Sample Collector Training website.

  • SOUTH CAROLINA COMMERCIAL SWINE INDUSTRY TRAINING

Commercial swine industry Category II accredited veterinarians who want their farms to participate in the South Carolina Certified Swine Sample Collector Program should contact the swine health program manager, Dr. Sean Eastman, at:

    Peastma@Clemson.edu
    O: (803) 726 - 7804
    C: (803) 231 - 9503

before conducting training with their staff. Once registered, a password will be shared with the Category II accredited veterinarian to give their staff for testing when training is completed.

To be certified in South Carolina, eligible individuals work with their Category II accredited veterinarian completing the national program training and the South Carolina Certified Swine Sample Collector CVDC Submission training video. After the training, eligible individuals must past the national test, report this to their Category II accredited veterinarian, and then must successfully complete hands-on/competency training with the veterinarian.

South Carolina will accept commercial swine industry staff who completed sample collector training in North Carolina and were certified by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and have completed the South Carolina laboratory submission form training video.
