YLI Board Training

Board training conveys the knowledge and understanding needed by board members to effectively carry out their roles as members of the organization's board of directors. YLI Board Training is designed to help board members and elected officials understand the principles of a board’s regulation, operation, planning, budgeting and communication. We have experience in training both state agencies and community organizations and specialize in tailoring the training to the specific needs of each organization.

Your organization could benefit from YLI Board Trainings if:

  • You have formed a new board.
  • You have many new board members.
  • You have experienced a significant turnover of board members.
  • Your current board has never received any formal training on how to be a board or how to decide what kind of board they want to be.
  • Your current board could benefit from a refresher on some fundamentals of board effectiveness.

Training includes sessions on creating or revisiting vision and mission statements, formulating a business plan, partnering and team building. Depending on the needs of each organization, sessions on marketing, fundraising and grant writing also can be included in the program. Accommodations are available at the YLI facility for board training requiring overnight stays.
