Girls Circle Training FAQs
1. I want to conduct Girls Circles in my community. Will this training get me certified?
Yes! The Girls Circle training offered by The Girls Center enables you to return to your community, and conduct Girls Circles. You will receive a certificate of completion, offered by One Circle Foundation, as well as a facilitator manual, that you will find invaluable to guide your experiences as a Girls Circle facilitator.
The Girls Center is the only licensed training facility that can certify facilitators in South Carolina. Girls Center trainers in SC are licensed through the national One Circle Foundation in Cotati, California.
2. Who Can Help Me Start Girls Circles in my community?
The Girls Center can! Our Girls Circle trainers are: Liz Morris and Velvet McGowan. All three have numerous years of experience in youth development, as well as in conducting girls circles in their communities, residential programs, and juvenile justice facilities. They will be available for technical assistance and coaching, after your training experience, as you go about conducting girls circles in your community.
3. What should I wear to the training?
Dress for the training is business casual. You may want to bring a sweater to have on hand in the training room, in the event it gets cool.
4. I am attending girls circle training at one of your other locations, and need to make lodging arrangements. What is the best hotel to stay in?
2015 Girls Circle Facilitator Training will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn located at (Columbia/Harbison) 434 Columbiana Drive, Columbia, SC 29212. Special hotel rates of $129.00 is available for Girls Circle Facilitator Training participants. Reservations must be made 30 days prior to the training date.
5. What is the Closest Airport to the Training Site?
If you are coming to our training from out of state, the closest airport to the training site in Columbia,SC is the Columbia Metropolitan Airport(CAE). The commute from CAE to the training site is about 25 minutes.
We make every attempt to negotiate the completion of training to accommodate flight departure times. However, in order to assure that you receive your training certification, you should not make any return flight arrangements that require you to leave the Columbia airport before 5:30pm.
6. The web-site says that the training lasts from 9:00am-5:00pm each day. I need to leave early on the second day...can I still get my certificate?
Girls Circle training is a 13-hour instructional program. We make every attempt, on both days of training, to manage our time, so that we can finish at a reasonable hour. We often ask trainees if they would like to start the training program earlier on the second day, or abbreviate our lunch time, so that we can end the training day before 5:00pm.
However, there are no guarantees that the training will end prior to 5:00pm. And, we do not grant certificates to those who do not complete the course. So, if you have to return home early on the second day, your best bet would be to register for another training where you can commit yourself to the entire 13 hours.
7. What is your refund policy, if I register, but am unable to attend?
Please see our refund and cancellation policy, posted on this web-site. It contains specific guidelines as to whether you can expect a refund if you are unable to attend a training.
Girls Circle trainings are open–registration trainings, and each class must have a minimum of 15 participants. If any class does not reach its minimum capacity of 15, training may be subject to cancellation. However, if the Girls Center cancels a class, all participants who have registered will receive a class cancellation notice at least 2 weeks before the training date, and refunds will be subsequently issued.
