This site plan was created with the intention of honoring African American history and creating a space that foster community through design inspired by that history. Through my research, I collected data from a multitude of oral histories told by African Americans in Upstate South Carolina. The reoccurring themes I discovered were church and song, which inspired many elements of my design. Through the usage of thresholds inspired by church architecture, open spaces and seating areas that speak to camp conventions and camaraderie, and immersive musical elements, I aim to create a space that enriches the African American community for years to come.
