Gallery Location

Acorn Gallery

The Acorn Gallery received its official designation in the spring of 2012, although it had been in operation for years before its official naming. Named after the creator of the gallery, professor emeritus and former art chair John Acorn, the gallery houses student shows and auxiliary exhibits and events. It is located on the ground level of Lee Hall.

Materials Lab

Located on the ground floor of Lee Hall, the fully equipped wood shop facility enables students to work with wood and various other materials. Students are encouraged to use the shop for academic assignments and other projects, and courses are offered in furniture, design/build and product design. In their first year, students are required to take an orientation covering the use of the equipment and safety issues.

Anagama Kiln

The ceramic program has access to a large wood-fired Anagama kiln, the only kiln of its kind in South Carolina. Lovingly referred to as the "Vatagama" (after its creator, professor emeritus and former department chair, Mike Vatalaro), the kiln is based on the ancient Japanese Anagama design. The 200 cubic foot kiln attracts ceramic artists from all over the region, and its collaborative firing is a celebrated event. It is located in a wooded location near campus and the adjacent Lake Hartwell.

Mac Lab

Students have access to the Mac lab in Lee Hall, which includes iMacs loaded up with industry-standard painting, drawing, photo editing, and video editing software.

Gunnin Library

The Gunnin Architectural Library has over 46,000 volumes of books and bound periodicals and 183 periodical subscriptions. The Library maintains a collection of audiovisual equipment, digital still and video cameras and architectural drafting aids for use by students and faculty in the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities. Approximately 130,000 slides in the fields of art and architecture are available to students, faculty and staff of Clemson. The Gunnin Architecture Library also houses collection over 2,500 planning documents from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. In addition, the library has a collection of approximately 1,250 videos related to the fields of architecture, city and regional planning, construction science and management, landscape architecture, and visual arts. Printing, copying and scanning facilities are also available in the library.

Studios

Studios provide graduate and undergraduate students access to sculpture's "disco inferno," the ceramic kilns (including the Anagama), printmaking equipment, the photo darkroom, and painting and drawing studios.
