The staff members across each division are dedicated to providing comprehensive services to researchers, students, and industry partners.

The staff of 12 can help clients design and create custom parts or assemblies for a wide range of applications. The MTS staff work on a wide range of projects spanning various industries from Aerospace, Biomedical, and Automotive to Industrial.

Customized Solutions

In addition to service requests, we also provide consultation services to help clients determine the best methods for manufacturing their products, devices, and prototypes. Our service goal is to provide the customer with a two-week turnaround time on projects with less than ten hours of duration. We do offer an accelerated next-day service at a premium rate for small projects (at the Manager's discretion).

  • Prototype and Part Manufacturing via Machining

    Machining and Technical Services' equipment and part manufacturing division is ready to support your current needs, whether it is using manual equipment or state-of-the-art 4-axis CNC equipment, including wire EDM technology. Our shop is equipped with vertical mills, lathes, precision surface grinders, and EDM machines. MTS has a large stock of raw materials on hand, from high-heat nickel-based alloys like Inconel to biocompatible polymers used in the medical industry.

    The staff includes a group of talented machinists and programmers from a multitude of backgrounds who can use this equipment to create complex parts or assemblies while holding tight tolerances.

  • Welding and Fabrication

    The Machining and Technical Services welding and fabrication division is a top-notch team of 3 fabricators with the experience to fabricate complex devices using the latest welding technology. The fabrication shop is equipped with a comprehensive welding workshop that has the ability to weld microscopic components of different materials all the way up to heavy plates and fixtures. The shop is equipped with an array of tools and machines, including welding equipment, plasma cutters, metal shears, brakes, and more. Our shop specializes in the custom design and fabrication of sheet metal projects to fit the needs of university research projects. The capabilities of the welding shop include but are not limited to laser, TIG, MIG, and stick welding, as well as soldering and brazing an extensive range of materials.

    MTS's welding and fabrication personnel are experienced metalworkers with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality custom metal fabrication and welding services.

  • Rapid Prototyping via 3D Printing

    Clemson University's MTS 3D printing division staff are highly skilled and knowledgeable in various 3D printing technologies. They excel in assisting clients with design optimization, file preparation, and material selection. With expertise in printer setup, calibration, and troubleshooting, they ensure high-quality and accurate prints. The team also offers post-processing and finishing services to achieve the desired appearance for 3D-printed objects. In the lab, the team can bring extensive knowledge details to the table that many others cannot, i.e., They possess in-depth knowledge of various printing methods, including fused deposition modeling (FDM), fusion jet technology, and material jetting. With their technical experience and proficiency, they assist clients in optimizing designs and models for 3D printing, ensuring compatibility, structural integrity, and efficient printing parameters.

    Dedicated to providing comprehensive research support, MTS's 3D print shop team collaborates closely with clients, including students and researchers, to bring their ideas to life using the power and speed of 3D printing technology.

  • Electronics and Instrumentation

    The electronics division of Clemson University's Machining and Technical Services is a specialized group dedicated to providing comprehensive electronics solutions and support for research projects across various disciplines. The electronics team works with various apparatus and process controls, including temperature, pressure, flow, and data acquisition, as well as writing and modifying software using C++, C#, PLC, LabVIEW, and Arduino environments. Information Technology support for end-user software, as well as modification and maintenance of editable software, can also be provided.

  • Design Consultation, 3D Modeling and Reverse Engineering

    The Design Consultation, Reverse Engineering, and 3D Modeling Division in MTS includes staff from each division dedicated to providing comprehensive services in design, reverse engineering, and 3D modeling, as well as the creation of detailed blueprints and technical drawings. With a deep understanding of engineering principles and cutting-edge technologies, the division offers expertise in various aspects of product development and manufacturing optimization.

    Team members have extensive knowledge of CAD software, 3D scanning technologies, and manufacturing processes. They work closely with clients, collaborating on projects and providing valuable insights on materials and manufacturing processes through the design and modeling stages.
