Program Fee Waiver

Students who are no longer pursuing an engineering or computing degree and are unable to declare their intended major may apply for an Engineering Program Fee or Computer Science Program Fee Waiver. The waiver is intended for those who can not successfully confirm a new major before the next Academic Term. Students should make every attempt to declare their major prior to submitting a waiver application. The waiver is only applicable for one term.

Factors for Consideration

  • Student made every effort to declare the intended major or change their status to undeclared prior to completing the waiver application.
  • Student does not qualify to declare their intended major.
  • Intended major is not currently accepting students.
  • Student is not eligible to change status to undeclared due to exceeding maximum hours.
  • Student may not be enrolled in courses consistent with requirements of their current engineering or computing major for the term they are requesting a waiver.
  • Student met with intended major advisor for suggested coursework.
  • Program Fee Waiver Application was completed in full and submitted within specified timeline.
  • Fee must be listed on the student’s bill to be waived. Students enrolled prior to Summer of 2018 do not incur the Program Fee.

Eligibility & Notification Process

If you meet eligibility requirements to change majors, submit a Change of Academic Program request as soon as possible, but at least by the first day of class. If you have exhausted all other options, submit a Program Fee Waiver Application by 11:45 PM on the first day of class for the full Fall or Spring term.

The Program Fee Waiver Application will be reviewed to ensure there are no other options for declaring the intended major or the undeclared major and the student is not pursuing coursework toward their current engineering or computing degree.

  • The fee may be waived in full, adjusted to match the fee of the intended major, or charged in full.
  • The student will be notified via email by the last day to add a class for the full term.
  • If an adjustment is made that results in an overall credit balance, it will be refunded to the student's eRefund account or mailed a check.

Meet with Advisors

DECLARE NEW MAJOR: Meet with an academic advisor in the major you wish to pursue. Discuss eligibility requirements to declare major and suggested coursework for next term.

CHOOSE UNDECLARED MAJOR: After talking to your new major advisor, if you are unable to declare your desired major, see if you qualify to change to Undeclared. Please review the catalog for more information. You will need to do the following:

  • Review college credits to determine if you have 45 or fewer total credit hours (including AP, IB, and transfer credits)
  • Submit a change of academic program request to Undeclared

If you need assistance at any point in the process, reach out to your academic advisor for guidance.
