Computing Academics
July 2023 marked the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Computer Science at Clemson. Over those 45 years, the scope of the curricula and the research has successively broadened into the current School of Computing, which pursues not just Computer Science but also Applied Computing, Biomedical Data Science and Informatics, Computer Information Systems, Digital Production Arts, and Human-Centered Computing.
The School of Computing has about sixty faculty of instruction and research faculty members across three research divisions: Computer Science, Visual Computing, and Human-Centered Computing. In the past five years, undergraduate enrollment has surged by 43% to a current enrollment of more than 1200 across our three undergraduate majors; graduate enrollment has grown by 37% to over 400 students across the state.
Faculty Excellence
Award-Winning Educators
We strive to transform imaginative concepts into solutions that create value and contribute to society through innovation, excellence, and integrity. This is further enhanced by fostering student engagement and cultivating a sense of community that allows us to approach concepts from a wider angle.
Computing is currently at an all-time high for tenure-track faculty, undergraduate, and graduate student enrollment. The School of Computing is recognized for its pioneering research in the development of new technologies and the exploration of how technology can influence the world. Esteemed faculty, graduate, and undergraduate researchers collaborate with one another and across disciplines to uncover new findings.
Our Faculty“Dr. Jacob Sorber has been a huge influence to me since I got here at Clemson. So, before I came to Clemson, I knew that I wanted to write software for spacecraft one day. And I showed up on my first day here at Clemson and I knocked on his door and told him how enthusiastic I was about what I wanted to do. And he found a place for me in his lab. I had no idea what I was doing. But through his guidance and the friends and mentors I've met here in the lab, I've been able to learn a lot and get that much closer to making my dreams come true.”
