Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad

Family Resources

Studying abroad will be one of the most rewarding and challenging events of your student's college experience, and as a family member, we appreciate that you want to know as much as possible about study abroad resources. All students have access to the resources below in their Clemson study abroad application and discuss the resources during a study abroad advising meeting.

The Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad is here to support your student while they are abroad and during every step of the process, from initial preparations to returning from overseas. We invite you to explore our website and the Family Resources page to learn more about the program types offered at Clemson University, Payments & Financial Aid, Health & Safety, and who to contact regarding specific questions.

Program Types

At the Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad, we offer three (3) different program types: Faculty Directed, Exchange, and Third Party & Direct Enroll. Read more about the different program types below to learn more about your student's education abroad experience. Program types are discussed in depth during a study abroad initial advising meeting with all students.

Faculty Directed

Students participating on a Faculty Directed program will be studying abroad with other Clemson students and taking courses taught by Clemson faculty. Courses are viewed similarly to if they were at Clemson and impact a student's GPA. This is the best fit for students wanting to participate in a summer term.

For specific questions about payments, financial aid, health & safety, and who to contact please look at the resources below.

Exchange

Students participating on an Exchange program will be studying abroad with other international students and students attending the host institution. Coursework must be approved by its respective department at Clemson and is considered transfer credit. Transfer credit does not impact a student's Clemson GPA (may impact their scholarship GPA). Students must pass the course in order to recieve credit.

This is the best fit for sstudents who prefer a highly immersive and independent study abroad experience as well as wanting to participate in a semester term or academic year.

For specific questions about payments, financial aid, health & safety, and who to contact please look at the resources below.

Third Party & Direct Enroll

Students participating on a Third Party or Direct Enroll program will be studying abroad with other U.S. students and students attending the host institution. Coursework must be approved by its respective department at Clemson and is considered transfer credit. Transfer credit does not impact a student's Clemson GPA (may impact their scholarship GPA). Students must pass the course in order to recieve credit.

This is the best fit for students wanting a high level of support from the program provider and onsite staff. Third party and direct enroll options are available for both summer and semester terms.

For specific questions about payments, financial aid, health & safety, and who to contact please look at the resources below.
