Atomic, Molecular, and Optical
(AMO) physics is the study of the individual properties of atoms and molecules as well as the interactions between themselves and with photons. A deep understanding of the interactions between light and matter at the quantum mechanical level brings the ability to control and manipulate these systems which contributes to our understanding of fundamental physics and has led to the development of new technologies.
