Additional Requirements for Work with Select Agents and Toxins

Select Agents and Toxins are biologically derived toxic chemicals that are specifically regulated by the federal U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under regulation 42 CFR Part 73 and the U.S. Department of Agriculture under regulations 7 CFR Part 331 and 9 CFR Part 121. Use of Select Agents and Toxins at Clemson University is not currently permitted. Should a researcher wish to begin work with Select Agents and Toxins, it is necessary to contact the BSO  and to complete an IBC protocol. Should a Select Agent or Toxin be identified in the lab, either by finding it in storage or identifying it in a diagnostic lab, contact the BSO immediately.
