As a state-supported institution, Clemson University adheres to many state laws and regulations governing functions such as human resources, purchasing and ethics. Approximately 10 percent of the University's revenue is state-funded and subject to the S.C. General Assembly's annual budget approval. As a land-grant university, Clemson also is charged with establishing and monitoring extensive state regulations dealing with pest control, food safety, and many other health and safety issues. Consequently, the Office of State Relations works directly with the Governor's Office and the General Assembly on a regular basis.
